Bethany Thomas, Executive Director

Bethany Ann Thomas is a seasoned theatre professional and educator with over 25 years of training and experience spanning acting, directing, choreography, and stage production. A native of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, she holds two advanced degrees from Mary Baldwin University: a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and a Master of Letters (MLitt) in Shakespeare & Performance. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh, where she dual-majored in Theatre Arts (with a concentration in Directing) and Communications.

Throughout her career, Ms. Thomas has contributed to over 60 productions at various educational institutions and playhouses, serving in a variety of capacities, including director, choreographer, designer, and stage manager. Her professional background also includes leadership in the non-profit arts sector, where she served as the Artistic Director and Lead Instructor of the Johnstown Concert Ballet, and successfully guided the organization through a critical transition period.

Most recently, before joining our organization, Ms. Thomas worked as a Grant Facilitator for Cambria County in Pennsylvania and as an Adjunct Professor in the Theatre Department at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. She continues her creative work as a freelance director and choreographer, actively pursuing certifications in Intimacy Direction and Stage Combat to further expand her skill set and commitment to safe, inclusive creative spaces.

Ms. Thomas joined Allegany Arts in September 2025 as its new Executive Director, bringing her passion for the performing and visual arts, deep roots in education, and a strong vision for fostering vibrant, community-centered artistic experiences.
