The Allegany Arts Council is pleased to announce its STEAM-based program, Dr. FrankenMaker’s Lab, will begin in eight locations across Allegany County beginning April 17, 2019.

The program, now in its second year, explores STEAM-related topics. STEAM-based education incorporates the arts into science, technology, engineering and math curriculums, encouraging students to explore creativity, problem-solve and use artistic tools to learn new concepts.

The program, in part funded by County United Way, the Community Trust Foundation, and the Maryland State Arts Council, seeks to introduce concepts found in high-growth industries, such as movie-making, virtual reality and additive manufacturing, providing access to skills which will enable them to pursue careers requiring more technical expertise.

Dr. FrankenMaker’s Lab will be available in the following locations:

May 23: Washington Street Library

Participants must register through the Allegany Arts Council by calling 301-777-2787 or emailing skennedy@alleganyarts.org.

Workshops are free and open to students 8-13 living in Allegany County.
